An introductory course that builds beginning students' abilities using two-dimensional media. Exercises will explore the elements and principles of art, working with graphite, colored pencils, pastels, watercolor, tempera and acrylic.

ADVANCED ART (UC Approved) One Semester
This course is devoted to furthering the development of the student's artistic ability. The elements and principles of art will be expanded upon and used as a primary tool of creative expression. Students will work on a series/body of artwork, stressing communication, observation and experimentation. The course is geared toward the serious art student who is considering art as a career choice. Upon course completion, students will have compiled a professional art portfolio.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL ART (UC Approved) One Semester
Three-Dimensional Art provides students with the opportunity to work with art in the third dimension. Using clay as the primary vehicle of expression, students will learn various hand building techniques, surface decorations and methods for using sculpture as a form of expression and communication. Students will also create work with wire, Papier-Mache, and found objects. The elements and principles of design will be introduced in relation to form.

INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN (UC Approved) One Semester
This course introduces students to art which is intended to communicate information. The focus is on studying and using layout and design concepts utilized in the graphic design field. Students learn skills and production techniques and electronic imaging using scanners, digital cameras and computers.

ACTING / REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE One Semester
This course involves the practical application of every aspect of technical theater, i.e. acting, stage managing, backstage operation, costumes, makeup, sound, house management. Rehearsal and performance of all productions occurs under faculty supervision and guidance. Students will participate in every aspect of technical theatre. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher to participate.

PHOTOGRAPHY (UC Approved) One Semester
This course explores basic principles of photography, providing training in all phases of professional techniques. Emphasis is on camera operation, film exposure and development, photo printing and, basic lighting techniques. The course will cover theory of photographic processes and digital imaging.

CHORUS I (UC Approved) One Year
This course is designed to introduce the student to the art of singing. Students will sing both sacred and secular music while learning basic music theory and harmonization. Students will also learn vocal technique to aid in the development and strengthening of the voice. The course will expand the student's range both musically and vocally, building on basic technique and expanding on music reading skills including sight singing.

MUSIC COMPOSITION & INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC One Year
In this elective course, students will learn how to read and write their own music. Students will learn how to play an instrument and how to read music. The class would culminate in a public performance. No previous experience is required.
