Minimum of 40 Credits Required for Graduation. 

ENGLISH 9 (UC Approved) One Year
This course focuses on development of writing skills (including grammar), introduction to literature, speech and vocabulary. Using the grammar and composition 9 writing program, the student will study sentence building skills and basic organizational patterns in preparation for writing paragraphs, essays, and literature papers. Representative literature consisting of readings from fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama will be chosen in order to expose the student to a variety of literature. Vocabulary study prepares students for NEDT, PSAT, and SAT exams.

ENGLISH 9 HONORS (UC Approved) One Year
In addition to the course material covered in English 9 CP, Honors students will read three to four supplementary novels in preparation for more advanced literature study. Students will write additional papers, and adhere to higher proficiency standards.

RECOMMENDATION FOR ENROLLMENT……….……College Preparatory Student with special aptitude in literature and writing. Placement determined by High School Placement Test score and incoming grades. Student must maintain a grade of "B" or above at both semester grading periods to remain in Honors English

ENGLISH 10 (UC Approved) One Year
The content and goals of this course are geared exclusively to the college preparatory student. The students receive instruction enabling them to develop reading skills necessary for advanced studies, to provide an understanding of major genres in literature, to develop the analytical skills for each respective genre, and to improve writing skills.

ENGLISH 10 HONORS (UC Approved) One Year
In addition to the course material covered in English 10, English 10 Honors students will cover course material at a more rapid pace and will require more intensive analysis, both in written and oral formats.

PREREQUISITE………………………….……..…"B" or better in English 9 Honors or an "A" in English 9

ENGLISH 11 (UC Approved) One Year
This course will trace the evolution of American literature from Native American voices to contemporary American authors. Concentration is on building language skills, vocabulary and reading comprehension.

ENGLISH 11 HONORS (UC Approved) One Year
In addition to the course material covered in English 11, the English 11 Honors course requires extensive outside reading of novels. It helps students prepare for the SAT and is designed as a preparation for the senior Advanced Placement course.

ENGLISH 12 (UC Approved) One Year
This course focuses on preparing the student for college level literature courses through chronological survey of British literature. Emphasis is on reading, writing and understanding the various aspects of literature.

AP ENGLISH LIT & COMP (UC Approved) One Year
This course will chronologically trace the evolution of British literature with selected readings, from Beowulf to contemporary literature, through the historical, social and cultural influences, which molded its development. Advanced composition and analysis is stressed in anticipation of the Advanced Placement Exam scheduled each spring.
